Hi everyone! My name is Rebecca Krupatkin and I’m a rising sophomore in CSOM with a finance concentration. I’m from Brooklyn, NY, but went to high school in Manhattan. My dad works with computers, so I have always been super interested in technology, especially from a business perspective. I really enjoyed my Information Systems class with Peter Sterpe, and was thus inspired to join TechTrek East, and am very excited to see what this class brings and get to know everyone!

My favorite view of the New York City skyline (visible from the roof of my cousin’s apartment building in Brooklyn)
This summer, I spent a month traveling across Europe with some of my friends. We went to Paris, London, Amsterdam, Prague, Berlin, and Barcelona. It was a great time, and I enjoyed exploring new cultures and spending time with some of my best friends. Although I was originally nervous to leave the country alone for an extended period of time, it ended up being a wonderful learning experience. After I returned to New York from my trip, I spent some time interning at an accounting firm, where I learned valuable skills in programs such as QuickBooks.

Had to take a picture before entering Versailles for a tour!

The London Bridge!
Last semester, I interned at the American Program Bureau in Newton, where I served as a marketing intern. At the program bureau, which specializes in organizing and booking speeches for established individuals, from politicians to athletes, I was responsible for updating the company’s Twitter page and writing short biographies and speech descriptions for the speakers the organization represented. I learned a great deal of teamwork, and was inspired to consider a double major in communications, although I’m still in the process of deciding whether or not this would be a field I’d be interested in pursuing.
On campus, I’m a member of Heights Capital, an investment club, and an e-board member of DJBC, a club that meets weekly to practice djing, and dj’s various events around campus. I’m a big fan of house and techno music, and was lucky enough to DJ a couple events around campus as well as the Boston area this past semester. This year, I look forward to joining more clubs and getting more involved on campus!
Class Expectations
As soon as I found out about TechTrek I knew it was something I would love to be a part of! I am eager to learn about the tech sector, and am curious to see what the working environment in startups and tech companies is like, as I wonder if that environment could suit me in the future as I consider potential career paths to pursue and professional fields to enter. I have lived in New York my whole life and have heard a wide range of opinions on the tech sector in this city, but have never really gotten the chance to experience it firsthand, and TechTrek East is a great way for me to do so. I am also very excited to start using twitter and a blog, as I have never used either despite the mass popularity of both. I’m excited to meet all of you, and get started with TechTrek!
Hi Rebecca,
That is so cool that you DJ! I never knew BC had a club for DJ’s, so that is really cool that you are so involved in that. I am super excited to start class with you, and I’m sure it will be really interesting to have an NYC local’s perspective on the city. Both of your internship experiences, along with your European travels, are very impressive! I’m sure you will be able to provide some great perspectives from these experiences in class, and I am looking forward to hearing them!

Hi Rebecca! Though I am not a native New Yorker, I grew up going into the city all the time so I am also excited to learn more about the tech scene there. I’m also really interested in hearing more about your travels- I’m going abroad to Scotland in the spring and could really use some recommendations of things to do and see in Europe. See you in class!
