Selfie | Carter Beaulieu

Hello! My name is Carter Beaulieu and I am a junior studying Finance and Entrepreneurship. I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but I have spent most of my life growing up in Phoenix, Arizona. My family now splits time between living in Phoenix and Los Angeles, depending on the time of the year. I have one brother who currently works and lives in San Fransisco, who graduated from USC in 2015. Outside of school, I have a strong passion for technology, traveling, sports, music, and television. This past summer I had the opportunity to intern at a company in Los Angeles called Darkroom, which was founded by two recent Boston College grads. It was awesome being able to be a part of the BC family in the professional world, seeing what it takes to operate a startup firsthand. While I have an affinity for startups, I have also started to take different programming classes, most recently being Professor Gallaugher’s Swift/iOS course. After taking this class, I have developed a strong interest in creating mobile applications. I am in the process of creating two right now. One of which is an application that allows students to anonymously chat with each other in chat rooms that are unique to each class a student is enrolled in. The second application is a way for students to see where their friends are going out on a particular night. As far as traveling, I have been fortunate to travel to many unique places around the world. I most recently traveled to Tokyo and Mexico City this past summer which was awesome. I also had the chance to study abroad for a month in Madrid during the summer after my freshman year. My favorite place that I have ever been to is Lake Como, Italy.

In terms of sports, I played basketball throughout high school, as well as other sports growing up like soccer and football. My two favorite sports teams are the Minnesota Vikings and the Phoenix Suns. Neither of these two teams have ever one a championship, but hopefully one day I will be able to witness it. I am also a big supporter of BC’s sports teams, as I have even travelled with friends the past two years to the Clemson and Florida State away football games. We lost both of these games so maybe I am bad luck, but hopefully not! As far as music goes, I never really got into playing an instrument growing up, but I love attending concerts and exploring different artists that aren’t necessarily well known. Some of my favorite artists include J. Cole, Jacob Banks, Mac Miller, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. In terms of television, my favorite shows include Seinfeld, Rick and Morty, Nathan for You, and The Simpsons.

I am extremely excited for Tech Trek and everything the class has to offer. In taking Perspectives on Management last year co-taught by Professor Doyle and Professor Clavin, I was able to hear a lot of great things about the class. This really sparked an interest in taking the class this year. It made sense for me to apply, given my passion for technology, startups, business, and entrepreneurship. I know how unique this class is and I didn’t want to regret not taking this opportunity. Getting the chance to go to some of the top tech companies in the world and also meeting/networking with individuals at these companies is an opportunity that is hard to come by. It is so awesome for BC to offer this class to their students, in particular to undergrads. I was also considering taking Tech Trek East in the fall, but I know that I want to end up working and living on the West Coast, so this class made more sense. Upon completing the class, I hope to have made the most out of this experience, learning as much as I can from our visits and getting closer with all of my classmates. I can’t wait! (Meme below)

One of the funniest memes I have seen recently. Mostly because it’s quite true.

  1. Carter,

Hope your break is going well. I would love to hear more about the apps you’re working on and how the progress is going. Both of those ideas are really interesting, and being a computer science minor myself I would love to see your implementation of them. Can’t wait to get to know you better in class!

  5. Great post! Awesome that you were born in MN – that’s where I’m from 🙂 Also so cool that you had the chance to intern at Darkroom! I had the chance to meet the founders at the Startup Fair last year, and they seemed awesome. I’m also looking forward to learning more about the applications you’re making and trying them out!
